Who we are
San Diego Plug-In Solar is run by San Diego Plug-In Solar Cooperative, Inc., a California worker cooperative corporation (“the cooperative,” “we” or “us”). The cooperative is responsible for this site and for the information described on this page. Its founder, Curtis G. Carll, is a San Diego attorney, but the cooperative is not a law firm. This site is general information. It is not legal advice, and using it or answering a survey does not create an attorney-client relationship.
What we collect
- Survey answers. Our renter, owner and manager, organization, and interested-party surveys collect the answers you choose to give. The renter survey asks for a ZIP code. Everything else is optional and may include your building or complex, your landlord or management company, your name, your company or organization, your role, your email address, and any written answers you choose to give.
- Email you send us. If you write to hello@sdpluginsolar.com, we receive your address and your message.
- Calls you make to us. If you call 619-257-3600, we receive your phone number and anything you tell us or leave in a message. A phone company carries the call and handles it under its own policies.
- Basic technical data. Like most websites, our hosting service may log your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. We use this to keep the site running and to block spam. A short-lived record of your connection is also used to limit repeat submissions of the surveys.
If a survey form needs a correction, the page shows the form again with what you entered still filled in. Those entries travel only in that one request. We do not save them, put them in the page address, or store them on your device, and nothing is kept until the form is accepted.
The footer has a link to our Instagram page. It is an ordinary link. Nothing from Instagram loads on this site and it tells Instagram nothing about you unless you follow the link. Once you are on Instagram, its own privacy policy applies.
We do not use advertising trackers or analytics services. The only thing we ourselves store on your device is your Display options choices, which stay in your browser and are never sent to us.
This site runs behind Cloudflare, a security and delivery service. Traffic to the site passes through Cloudflare, which may log technical data such as your IP address and may set a small security cookie to tell real visitors from automated attacks. We use it for protection and reliability, not for advertising or to follow you around the web. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy.
Why we collect it
To understand what renters, property owners, managers and organizations in San Diego want and worry about, so we can work toward fair, workable rules for plug-in solar. We use your email, if you give one, only to follow up on this project, and only for updates if you ticked the box asking for them.
What we will never do
- We will never sell your information.
- We will never give your name or your answers to a landlord, a tenant, a company or any other organization without your permission. When we talk about the results, we describe them in totals, not by person.
- On the renter survey, the landlord name you type is used only to count how many renters are interested in each property owner. We do not contact the landlord about you.
- Responses are never shown publicly.
Please do not tell us about a dispute
Do not use the surveys, email or a phone call to describe a dispute with a landlord or tenant, and do not send lease documents, account numbers, health information or other sensitive details. We are not set up to give legal help, and this project cannot take your case. If you need legal help, contact a legal aid organization or a lawyer of your own.
Where it is kept, and who can see it
Survey responses are saved in the private administration area of this website. Only accounts with the site’s administrator role can list, open, download or delete them. Other accounts on the site, such as editors and authors, cannot see them. When you submit a survey, a copy is also emailed to the project address. That email account is hosted by Proton, a Swiss email provider, which stores messages with encryption designed so that Proton cannot read them. Messages sent from this website are not end-to-end encrypted. Responses are also kept on our web host's servers and in our email accounts. Our web host and email provider handle your information as our service providers. We keep responses as long as they are useful to this project. When you ask, we delete them from our active systems, including copies in our email accounts. Backup copies may remain until they are overwritten in the normal backup cycle.
Your choices
You can ask to see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Email hello@sdpluginsolar.com and tell us what you answered or when you submitted it, so we can find it. Because survey answers are not tied to a name unless you gave one, we may need your email, building or ZIP code to find your response. We will try to reply within a few business days.
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under California privacy law, and you can use the same email address to ask about them.
Children
This site and its surveys are for adults. Please do not submit answers if you are under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top. See also the disclaimer and terms.
