For renters

Tell us how plug-in solar looks from where you live.

A few minutes. Nothing is for sale, and we never share your answers with anyone without your permission.

Starting January 1, 2027, a California law lets a household use a small plug-in solar device without asking the electric utility for permission, but only if the device is certified and meets the state’s electrical requirements. Qualifying equipment may not be on sale yet. The law does not give renters a right against a landlord, and a lease, the owner’s permission, and building and electrical codes may still apply. We want this to go smoothly in San Diego for renters and property owners alike.
